KMG International N.V. company (previously - The Rompetrol Group N.V.) was purchased by NC KazMunayGas JSC (hereinafter – KazMunayGas) in 2007. In June 2009, KazMunayGas completed the acquisition of the remaining 25% of stock of shares of Rompetrol Group N.V. company and as a result of this transaction, the company became 100% owner of the company.
The change of the name of The Rompetrol Group company to KMG International is a part of the strategy for the integration of all activities of KazMunayGas company - the sole shareholder of KMG International and national Kazakhstani oil and gas operator. It also complies with the requirements for the promotion of a single brand of group of companies in foreign and domestic markets.
Rompetrol is the main brand of KMG International, used for oil refining, oil production and trade activities on the territory of Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria and Georgia.
KMG International company headquartered in the Netherlands is an international oil company, carrying out its economic activities in 11 major markets across Europe and Central Asia. KMG International company employs over 7,000 employees worldwide, including 5,000 employees in the internal Romanian market. The main activity of the group is refining, marketing and trading, and in addition, exploration and production, as well as the provision of other services in the oil industry such as wells drilling, services in engineering, procurement, construction and management (EPCM) and transportation services.
KMG International company owns the largest and most modern refinery company located in Romania, in the Black Sea region - Petromidia refinery in Navodari city, the processing capacity of which is more than 5 million tons per year.
The company owns another refinery - Vega refinery located in the Prahova county, near the town of Ploiești. The company is the manufacturer and supplier of special products and the only manufacturer of extraction naphtha in Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to 110 years of experience in the processing of crude oil, Vega refinery has evolved from a classic oil refinery into the manufacturer of special products and solutions, namely: ecological solvents, fuels for heating purposes, bitumen of special purpose, etc.
Both refineries cover more than 40% of the current capacities of the Romanian refinery, being the largest domestic branch facilities and Petromidia refinery - the only refinery located on the Black Sea coast, the supply of which is carried out directly via Midia marine terminal located near the coast line.
Petromidia refinery and Vega refinery operate as the centers of excellence, along with petrochemical plant on the platform of Petromidia refinery which is the only Romanian supplier of polymers.
As the result of implementation of the program of complex modernization of Petromidia refinery and the increase of processing capacity up to 5 million tons per year, Rompetrol Rafinare company (Petromidia refinery, Vega refinery and petrochemical plant) have had a number of operating records:
historical record: more than 5 million tons of processed raw material - the largest volume processed by a Romanian refinery;
more than 100 million tons of raw materials, processed by Petromidia refinery since 1979, when the plant was put into operation;
more than 30% of 5 million tons were processed in the last seven years;
Vega refinery: the best performance for N-hexane (66,400 tons) and bitumen (61,400 tons);
4.95 million tons of raw materials were processed, almost at the level of 2014, despite the fact that the operation of the production units has been temporarily suspended for overhaul;
over 15,000 tons of raw materials has been processed during the day - the largest volume of oil refining from the date the refinery into operation (in 1979);
85.7% - a record volume of production of light oil products (gas, diesel, and jet fuel), second consecutive year;
98.6 - the best energy intensity index, ever recorded at Petromidia refinery;
96.9% - a record for the mechanical readiness of Petromidia refinery;
2.47 million tons of diesel fuel - the largest amount in the history of the refinery;
Vega Refinery - record volumes of bitumen production (80,000 tons) and N-hexane (71,000 tonnes), second consecutive year;
As a result of a comprehensive program of Petromidia refinery modernization, completed in 2012, the factory is now one of the most technologically advanced and modern facilities in the region, meeting the requirements of the European standards in the field of occupational safety, health and environmental protection, as well as the production of fuel under Euro-5 standards.
Having received the Nelson complexity index of 10.5 as a result of the investment program worth 380 million US dollars, which began in 2006 and ended in 2012, Petromidia Refinery is the most efficient company in Romania among refineries.
Petromidia refinery is also the first Romanian refinery, successfully operating in compliance with European environmental standards and fuel production standards. Rompetrol Rafinare company operating two refineries in 2014 reached the historical record in terms of raw material processing. Since its inception in 1979, the volume of processing at Petromidia refinery amounted to 100 million tons of raw material.
Rompetrol Rafinare company has been ranked first among the largest exporters of oil in Romania and the second place among exporters.
The strategic location of Petromidia refinery in Constanța port enables fast delivery of petroleum to KMG International branches in the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Bulgaria, as well as other business partners in the Black Sea region. In autumn 2008, Rompetrol company and KazMunayGaz opened Midia Marine Terminal for crude oil transferring to the Black Sea port of Midia. After the implementation of the project, offshore oil vessels are loaded with oil through sea discharge systems for submarine and terrestrial pipelines attached to the oil park and to Petromidia refinery. In comparison with the route through the port of Constanța, this project helped reduce the length of the pipeline between the oil tanker and refinery by 33 km.
KMG International company also carries out large-scale operations for oil and oil products trade in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean regions through the KMG Trading AG company, a subsidiary company of the group in Switzerland.
The retail network of KMG International carrying out the activities under the name of Rompetrol, has over 1,000 fuel points of sale on the territory of Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, as well as in France and Spain under the brand of Dyneff*.
